TEN THOUSAND FISTS Meant to signify unity and strength, the kind of elation and power that can be felt at a momentous rock show. It's speaking to the nonbelievers: You will remember the night you were struck by the sight of ten thousand fists in the air.
JUST STOP About a situation where your other half is always trying to come up with reasons to argue with you and you are constantly apologizing, and constantly asking for forgiveness, over and over again, and the frustration that comes with it. The song is asking "that person" to just stop.
GUARDED About how choosing this way of life, this path that we are on, some more than others. You force yourself to be guarded. The lyrics are me speaking to myself. I made this decision to lead this sort of life and therefore I'm unfortunately deprived of certain things, like love in a true sense.
DEIFY The song's not specifically about George Bush, it's about people like him. It's meant to be cryptic and ambiguous. It's about attributing God-like qualities to politicians and public figures. That's why in the beginning you hear that sample from Bush's 9/11 speech. It's the perfect example of someone who was attributed God-like power, and deified. Whether it's Bush, the Pope, Ted Turner, or anybody else like that, it just warns of the danger of that sort of behavior, treating a human being like a God.
STRICKEN About those moments when someone comes into your life and it's almost as if you've been afflicted with a disease you can't get rid of; devastating and debilitating.
I'M ALIVE About people who try to change you. About those people who try to force you into doing something you don't want to do. In relation to our music, our art, our creativity.
SONS OF PLUNDER About the whole trend of these bands that all sound exactly like one another that all the labels seem to keep snapping up. No one is identifiable anymore. Not by their look, not by their sound, not by anything. It's just another band wearing suits, another band wearing ties. plun·der • steal goods from (a place or person), typically using force and in a time of war or civil disorder
OVERBURDENED About a soldier standing in line waiting to pass through the gates of hell, and he's in line with all these other soldiers that died in the course of battle and they're all wondering why they got there. All of you who are hypersensitive to any mention of the word "soldier" being associated with a place called "hell" let me offer my explanation. The song is an idea, a concept, an ironic image in my mind, the notion in this case that someone fought for what he/she thought was right, only to have been mislead and be forced to deal with the consequences. I have deep love, respect, and admiration for our soldiers who defend our way of life.
DECADENCE About how difficult it is to live a decadent lifestyle, the effect it has on you and what it does to your soul.
FORGIVEN About the victim of a soldier who's already forgiven the soldier for killing him because he knows his killer is next in line to die.
LAND OF CONFUSION (A cover of Genesis' "Land of Confusion") Echoes the political undertone of the 1987 original.
SACRED LIE Deals with the horrors of the mutilation and damnation of war, the terrible cost paid in flesh, blood, and souls.
PAIN REDEFINED About how sometimes when your sensory abilities become overwhelmed, you start losing sense (of taste, smell, sight) and you can't trust your senses anymore to judge the world around you. elochai • hebrew transliteration meaning "my god"
AVARICE av·a·rice • Immoderate desire for wealth; cupidity.

The meaning of Overburdened is very unique. The first time I listened to it I knew there was a deeper meaning.

Yup, only during the Ten Thousand Fists tour cycle and only at certain shows. They alternated four songs during that tour, playing some combination of two of them: Overburdened, Decadence, Pain Redefined, and Deify. I got Overburdened and Deify for the Cleveland show and then they played all four for MAAW III.
