:O ANOTHER NECROTHREAD!

I hated this video (:

It totally pissed all over the song's vibe if you ask me.  I always envision vibrant purples and blues for this song color scheme-wise.  They gave it lots of pale browns and grays.  Not to mention I've never envisioned the living entity that is The Night as being pitch black... Night time doesn't look pitch black to me.  Like I said, it's all purple and blues.  Deep shades of them.  That's what I envisioned for this video, too.  Basically like the cover for the single (I can post a picture if someone hasn't seen it before).  Maybe something like a hearkening back to the Prayer video, except Draiman can walk through at night instead of the day, and instead of bright light washing over him, it can be those vibrant purples and blues.  Basically, for me, I was so passionate about this song, and had my own really strong vision.  Then the video went in a completely opposite direction, being not vibrant, but pale.  And the gimmicky camera effects that add nothing to the overall quality... It's a music video just for the sake of a music video.  No significance.

If it were up to me, I'd make the video dark, not black, nor pale brown.  And it wouldn't be mostly performance.  It'd have a semi-story.  The entity that is the night wouldn't be murderous, either; it would have a strong air of mystery, much like it seems to during the actual song, with the brooding verses but the seemingly-redemptive choruses.  I have no actual ideas for any semi-stories, just really strong vibes about the elements that should have consisted of this video.  In other words, I label this video as a failure.

I'd also like to comment on the little ending storyline of the video.  That was stupid... The video tried catching a horror film vibe with it?  In that attempt, it failed.  The actor of the security officer was anything but convincing.  There's one moment I recall quite clearly during his inspection of the vehicle.  His eyes look a little apprehensive, but it's not distorting his features.  Mediocre.  But then he licks his lips.  That ruined whatever it seemed like he was trying to pull off, completely and utterly.  I went from semi-wondering about him to not caring... He just sucked.  And there was nothing there; he explores and gets killed.  No element of... anything there.

Just a bland, stupid, cash-in video of a song for which I had very strong feelings and visions.  To me, it totally failed.  Supported argument FTW?  That should spur discussion a bit, too (:

I mostly agree with your above statement. I mean, the vid had some pretty decent effects in places, but it was overall lifeless and vapid. Definitely a thumbs down from me.

Yeah, and I had thought the video for Indestructible sucked, too.  At least that had a point.  It successfully showed courage and soldiers and wars and battles, etc, as well as prevailing people.  It came full circle and everything.  I had expected The Night to hack that to pieces, and I didn't think it could get much worse.  But then this came out.  And I suddenly saw Indestructible as more of a positive Tongue

Yeah, Inside the Fire and Indestructible both had a point, ItF being a bit better of a vid, imo. The Night....idk.

Yeah, like I (think I) said, I thought Indestructible sucked.  But it had a point.  Inside the Fire is the only video I actually enjoyed.  The Night was an exercise in mediocrity.

On a broader scale, The Night was the only actual music video Disturbed has (meaning, I'm not counting concert footage videos or anything) that has failed so badly.

Stupify - Not sure what the meaning or point was, but there was nice progression with the "story" and it had a nice conclusion
Voices - To me, has the point of fucking everyone up to get satisfied.  Video captures that point nicely to me, again.
Prayer - Point was to display getting through disasters unscathed (derivative of Job), and the video uses its imagery nicely to display this point.  Probably on my top 3 favorite videos.
Remember - I don't know the point, but this video has some really powerful and stunning imagery.  For that alone (the images so well match the song), it was a success to me (someone who doesn't even understand that SONG'S meaning, much less the video's).
Stricken - Wasn't feeling this video too much, not gonna lie.
Land of Confusion - Huge success.  The level of symbolism and aim in this video is very high and it achieves its message in troves, in my opinion.  Very well thought-out.

We already discussed the 3 from Indestructible, so I'll stop there.  But I just find it funny that The Night is the only one I find truly failed.
