I wouldn't call Disturbed "Underground", as I use that mostly for bands that haven't charted any song. Though metal/hard rock isn't very mainstream (pop and Nickelback is mainstream). So mainstream metal maybe? |

No, it isn't "mainstream Metal", it's just mainstream, sure it might not be paraded around the media quite as much as Nickelback or every "Pop sensation" to cum out of Disney, but it's still a very well-known name and is thrown in the mainstream a good bit.

I have to disagree. I'd say most people that don't know the hard rock/metal genre probably don't know who Disturbed are. I wore a Disturbed shirt and a few people thought that it was a movie.

Last year I saw several commercials featuring Indestructible. Of course there's gonna be people that don't follow music or only a small part of it that are gonna be unfamiliar with the band, but that doesn't make them any less mainstream. I bought an Iron Maiden shirt over the summer while on vacation with my cousins and uncles etc and not one person out of all 12 of the people I was with had any idea what Iron Maiden was.

WHAT?!?! I've lost hope for humanity now. You can hate the music, but you still have to know who certian artists are. Mainly artists like Michael Jackson, Metallica, Beethoven, Iron Maiden and the like. Heck I even acknowledge that a LadyMan GaGa exists.

Popular? Maybe, though i dont think theyll beat LP in popularity, i mean even here mostly everyone would recognize LP, but it would take a metalhead to recognize Disturbed. But Korn, LP, Staind, Nickelback, etc are way more mainstream than Disturbed imo. |
