And tech death isn't mainstream either.
Think, when was the last time you heard tech death on the radio.

Skillet's popularity also exploded after Comatose was released. Wink

Yeah, but I first heard a Skillet song in....November? Maybe December. So yeah, I'm alot newer of a fan than Comatose's release.

Not everything mainstream is on the radio, just everything that's mainstream out its ass and is somewhat "radio-friendly", whatever the fuck that means.

Every genre has its own "mainstream", and Necrophagist is a BIG name in their industry.

Plus, Tech Death is a lot more well-known than a good bit of other genres.

Dude, each different genre may have their own 'mainstreams', but each genre is varies on it's own overall popularity.

Tech death is pretty underground in general, dood. If you deny that, ye be ignorant. Or not understanding of the word 'underground'. Whichever. Or a combination of both. Or you're just a Knutfail.

You'd be surprised.

Technical death metal's page on wikipedia's views yesterday= 468
Compared to:
807 - Deathcore
881 - Melodic death metal
971 - Doom metal
Even sludge metal, which isn't a real genre, has 634

Sure, we can't base a genre's "undergroundness" by Wikipedia, but it proves something.

Truth be told, regardless of genre, isn't good music, good music? Some music is shit and some is awesome (American Idol shit removed)

just sayin.

Necrophagist is very mainstream for their genre (hate to burst your bubble, but hell, so is Burzum), not saying they aren't good, but probably the most well-known Tech Death band there is.

Korn can only dream of writing a song as good as Disturbed. Seriously their musicianshipt is not anywhere near Disturbed.

And well, here where i live anything, and i MEAN ANYTHING other than SOAD, Linkin Park, Rasmus or Rammstein is underground. Has to do with rock being extremely unpopular genre among the general population, so i can get away with likining pretty much any "american" mainstream band and still keep my cred >_>

KF wouldn't be KF if KF wasn't a dick.

Dude, seriously, 1 of Korn's good albums kicks the shit out of everything Disturbed has ever done.

And well, location doesn't make something "underground".  Necrophagist is one of the most mainstream Death Metal bands currently, there's nothing wrong with that, but it's true, deal with it.

Agreed (:

But really, I don't think "underground" versus "popularity" is much of an equivalent to "good" versus "bad."  Popularity vs underground just says something about how popular your band is, how many trends they probably follow, and how polished their sound probably is.  Notice my liberal use of maybe.

But I just have to ask if any of this matters if the music is good.  If you ask me, it doesn't.  I'm not much of an underground listener, and I enjoy "accessibility," but criticizing somebody based on what they like, popular or not, is just semi-stupid (:

Respectfully disagree. Korn is good, but I can't go with that view. Not saying your wrong, in your opinion... but, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.  Grin Respect!

Take a Look In the Mirror, Follow the Leader, Life Is Peachy, and the first half of the greatest hits album.

Y'know, the essentials.
